give it up

So if your anything like me there is something for you that is your gateway drug to eating. Mine is sweets. I have no off button, I can't eat just one cookie- I have to eat five. So like any other addiction you have to find a way to quit. Some people can slowly back off, not me- I have to go cold turkey. So I have an offer for any of you- I'm going to give up sweets starting today until November 7th, then I will try to incorporate them in a managed way. If you want to give up your gateway food with me until this date- let me know what you're going to give up so we can stay accountable to each other and support one another. If you say you're giving it up- there's no cheating- because I promise I will not cheat and we are accountable to each other.

Hmm...this is a tempting offer. Here's the issue for me though...I've done this a lot before, where I totally overeat on sweets then I'm like, alright I'm stopping that all together, and I do well for about 2 weeks but then a month later I find myself messed up off of sugar again. So the question is: does just getting rid of it really deal with the reason you can't stop in the first place or would it almost be harder to control your portions and put some sort of boundary on that instead of doing away with it all together. This is one thing I like about the way Weight Watchers does things, you can have anything you want, but you start to realize it's not worth it. For instance, you can eat a bag of M&M's for like 6 points, but then you realize that is a quarter of everything you'll eat that day, just not worth it. I don't know. I still might do it with you. I just need to figure out if I am really dealing with the issue by not eating sweets at all---for you that might be it. So you do it! But I need to think.

Hey guys...I talked with Allison tonight about this as well. I first I thought she was talking about doing it until October...but she clarified it was for 8 weeks to November.....I told her I had to think about it as well. But, we talked about what might be right for me...if I could be really strict on WW for 8 weeks, that would be a better goal that I could be comfortable with. Then, as you said Colleen, you can have a treat here and there, but is it worth it? I am going to think about it as well and hopefully commit to 8 weeks on WW. Hopefully tomorrow :)

Hey girls... I would like you to consider joining Allison and I. I started with her, and we are working towards a goal until Nov. 7th. She gave up sweets, and I am doing Weight Watchers. Join us if you like and let us know. I am on my 4th day, and it was what I needed to finally get started. Set your own goal. It's just nice to know that someone else is on the same road as you.

i'm IN!! here's my deal -- i'm only allowing sweets (and any of my binge-type foods) during the day. this is because i can totally control myself during the day ... it's in the evening that i get into trouble and try to eat my schoolwork, woes, etc away.

I find that this works for me in two ways: 1) when i'm really craving something I can get through it by reassuring myself that I'll be able to enjoy it later. 2) when I don't give in to the craving I learn that it goes away
